Savory Danubio Bread – Soft Pull-Apart Rolls with a Melty Heart

3. Shape the Rolls

Once risen, divide the dough into small equal pieces (about golf ball size).

Flatten each piece slightly, place a few cubes of ham and scamorza in the center, then pinch the edges closed to seal. Roll into smooth balls.

4. Assemble the Danubio

Arrange the filled dough balls in a greased round baking pan, placing them close together so they will stick as they bake.

Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes.

5. Brush & Bake

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

Mix the egg yolk with milk and gently brush over the tops of the dough balls for a beautiful golden finish.

Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and fragrant.

Serving Suggestion

Serve warm to enjoy the full magic of the melted cheese center. This bread pairs wonderfully with fresh salads, soups, or simply on its own as a comforting snack.

Tips for Success
You can substitute scamorza with mozzarella or any semi-soft melting cheese.
Add herbs like oregano or thyme for extra flavor.
Try different fillings: spinach and cheese, mushrooms, or even spicy salami.
